On a home improvement contracts for swimming pools, by law you can not ask for no more than two percent of the total contract price or $200 down, whichever is less. On all other home improvement contracts, it is 10 percent of the total contract price or $1,000 down, whichever is less.
For example, on a home improvement contract of $8,000 , you can ask for no more than $800 as a down payment.
